Open Days for changes to public transport in South Auckland

10 July 2013

Open Days for proposed changes to public transport in South Auckland start this Saturday

South Auckland residents are invited to attend an open day to find out more on Auckland Transport’s plans to change public transport in South Auckland.

The first open day kicks off at the Papakura Crossroads Church on Broadway, this Saturday from 10am to 5pm.

It’s an opportunity to meet with the Auckland Transport staff behind the New Network and ask questions and learn more about the changes. There are displays, maps and information for people to take away. People can also submit their feedback on the day.

Auckland Transport’s Public Transport Network Manager, Anthony Cross says consultation for the south has got off to a good start.

“We’ve received more than 550 submissions on the proposals so far, with the majority in support.

“There are of course some routes and proposals that have captured people’s interest, which we’ve been expecting and encouraging.

“We’re aiming to create a network that is both useful and convenient for more people in south Auckland. We’re not saying we have it completely right and we hope to improve on it with the public’s input,” says Mr Cross.

Submissions close 4pm Friday 2 August.

A series of open days over the next two weeks are planned at Manurewa, Mangere, Papatoetoe, Manukau, Otara, Otahuhu and Onehunga. For information on venues and times go to www.aucklandtransport.govt.nz/newnetwork

The New Network is a region wide public transport network which is proposed to deliver bus services at least every 15 minutes throughout the day, seven days a week on major routes between the hours of 7am to 7pm. Services will connect better with train services for those customers who require connections.

The New Network will be rolled out by Auckland Transport over the next three years starting with bus services in South Auckland in early 2015.
