Free Tree Clearing in Porirua After Storm

An idea posted on the Council’s facebook page last week by a resident, for help to clean up after the big storm has been met with an avalanche of requests after a positive response from the Council.

The Council agreed, for the week between 1 and 8 July, to remove and dispose of large fallen branches on private property in Porirua. The offer was posted on facebook last Friday and over 200 calls have come into the Council’s Contact Centre.

The Council’s Works Operations team have been flat out since removing any branches and other vegetation that can fit on the back of a regular Council truck.

The team asks that you log your address with our Contact Centre on 237 5089 and put the vegetation on your property. As long as you have logged your request, the team will get to you but it may take a few days due to the sheer number of requests. If for some reason you don’t require the team’s help after all, please let the Contact Centre know so they can take your address off the list.

The fallen branches that are collected are being shredded and turned into compost which will be used on the city’s garden beds.

At the same time, Council’s roading contractors Fulton Hogan have been busy clearing the city’s roads of fallen trees and branches and these have been chipped and shredded into mulch which is available to the public free of charge from 3A Kapuni Grove in Elsdon.
