Next month is a big month for DCM, as we hold our annual Bookfair. As our major fundraiser of the year, its success is
absolutely critical to everything we do at DCM. It is also a key opportunity for us to let Wellington know about the
important work that DCM is doing in our city.
This year’s Bookfair will be held on the weekend of 17-18 August at the TSB Bank Arena. As a supporter of ours, you will
know what a great bookfair it is. In fact, it is the largest of its kind in Wellington, with some 90,000 books as well
as DVDs, CDs, vinyl and puzzles. We intend to set aside the afternoon of Saturday 17 August to showcase DCM’s work,
including featuring a performance by the DCM Ukes Matawaka, a group comprised of people who have come to DCM for help
(read yesterday's piece by Ukes leader Alan Norman in The Dominion Post's Life section here). It would be great if you could mark this afternoon in your diary and bring along some friends, helping us by sharing
the DCM story with them. You may even like to book a table for a Wellington on a Plate lunch with your friends that day,
or to take advantage of the waterfront location to enjoy a coffee with them.
Yes, our Bookfair coincides with the Wellington on a Plate festival this year, and so we are taking this opportunity to
encourage Wellingtonians to focus on what "Wellington on a Plate" looks like for the people who pass through our doors
at DCM. We'll be running a cook book stall at the Harbourside Market, corner of Cable and Barnett Streets beside Te
Papa, on Sunday 18 August. We are looking for donations of great cook books to feature on our stall – please gather up
any that you or your friends are happy to donate and bring them in to our offices.
But most of all, we need you to help us by getting the word out to your family and friends and actively encouraging them
to head to Wellington’s waterfront that weekend to visit the DCM Bookfair or market stall. We really do need to get more
people through the door at our Bookfair this year than ever before.
DCM is so fortunate to have a large community of committed supporters who help us in so many different ways in pursuit
of our big vision – because together we CAN end homelessness in Wellington.
