Rotorua council appoints manager for new Inner City
Enterprises unit
ROTORUA 03.07.13: Rotorua District Council (RDC) has appointed Nick Dallimore to head its new Inner City Enterprises (ICE) unit.
Mr Dallimore will lead a team tasked with stimulating CBD vibrancy and introducing more activity into the central city. The new ICE unit integrates CBD revitalisation projects with other CBD operational services and will see some council services extended into the inner city to help generate more foot traffic.
Establishing the new department will involve a transition over the next few months with the full team expected to be up and running by September.
Mr Dallimore was previously economic projects manager for the council and has been involved in a number of Rotorua development programmes over the past 13 years. More recently he has been helping drive implementation of the city’s CBD revitalisation strategy, including development of Eat Streat, the Rotorua Night Market, inner city free WiFi, and ‘walkable city’ information panels.
He has also been involved in the Sustainable Economic Growth Strategy for Rotorua and developing marketing material for profiling the city as a great place to live, work and invest. Mr Dallimore is an executive member of the Rotorua Chamber of Commerce.
RDC Economic & Regulatory Services group manager Mark Rawson said the council was committed to improving the CBD investment environment over the short to medium term.
“Establishing the new Inner City Enterprises department and Mr Dallimore’s appointment to head the unit were an integral part of that objective. By integrating services into the new ‘ICE’ unit we’ll be able to operate more efficiently, and with five fewer people than previously required,” he said.
Mr Dallimore said the Inner City Enterprises team would bring together the council’s various CBD operational functions, work with inner city stakeholders in a ‘one team’ approach, and employ a more cooperative approach for delivering higher levels of service than previously possible.
He said the Inner City Enterprises Unit would mean much closer relationships among City Guardians, parking wardens, Castlecorp maintenance and cleaning personnel and other council departments that impact on the inner city.
“We will also be expanding the service capability of City Focus. By adding satellite RDC Customer Centre and visitor information services locals and tourist will have more ready access to quality information about our city, our services and our plans for the future.”
“We aim to deliver more effective and more integrated services in the CBD, work very closely with inner city business stakeholders, and secure collaborative support aimed at achieving positive outcomes for our city’s future growth and development,” Mr Dallimore said.
