LGNZ welcomes Government support for Auckland transport projects
28 June 2013
The Government support for Auckland’s public transport and roading projects is great to see, says Local Government New Zealand (LGNZ).
The Government has announced it will help fund the Auckland City Rail Link and has also committed to extra funding for Auckland’s State Highway network.
The City Rail Link will be a vital piece of infrastructure for Auckland’s economy and will help to meet the needs of its residents in such a fast growing city. It will also be a crucial step for Auckland to remain an internationally competitive city.
“This is good news,” says LGNZ President, Lawrence Yule. “The Government is listening to the needs of Auckland and is backing them on essential projects.”
“These projects will create major economic benefits for Auckland, and with the Auckland working population expected to double by 2041, the Government’s announcement is fantastic news for New Zealand as a whole.”
