Disruption to electricity supply continues in Hutt Valley
Wellington Electricity advises that Whitemans Valley, Wainuiomata and Days Bay residents will continue to be affected by power outages.
Work remains ongoing to determine the full extent of the damage.
Throughout the Wellington region it is estimated that 8,000 residents are now without power – down from the original figure of 30,000 predicted earlier.
Restoration
will continue to be prioritised to areas most affected by
the storm and to restore power to as many customers as
possible.
Hutt City Council reminds residents
to:
• Stay well away from fallen powerlines. Always assume they are live and dangerous. This includes keeping away trees and anything which is in contact with fallen powerlines. Do not touch them.
• Listen to a portable radio for official advice and power restoration information.
• Check on your neighbours, particularly the elderly, if you think there may be any danger. For residents without power, please contact your family, friends or neighbours for assistance.
