Update on weather related disruption in Kāpiti: 8:32am

Media Advisory as at 8.30am Friday 21 June

Update on weather related disruption in Kāpiti

While strong winds and rain continue to lash Kāpiti, the district appears to have gotten off pretty lightly so far.

The Paekākāriki Hill Road is closed until at least this afternoon because of slips.  Waterfall Road is closed. There have been trees on roads overnight but these have been cleared as notified.

The roof has blown off the Raumati South Memorial Hall.

Council’s call centre logged six calls from midnight to 6am, mostly related to fallen branches and tree debris blocking roads.  Some homes in Raumati South are without power and street lights are out in Paekākāriki.

Kāpiti District Council is asking commuters to take extreme care on local roads and avoid unnecessary travel this morning.

We will keep you updated as more information comes to hand.
