Drivers asked to take care on Hutt City roads this morning
With wind and rain still violent after last night’s storm Hutt City Council is asking local commuters to take extreme care on local roads and avoid unnecessary travel this morning.
Severe wind and rain brought trees down overnight, left debris on roads and caused surface flooding.
Road crews have been working through the night to clear roads but a number of roads in the city are still closed due to debris and/or surface flooding:
Current local road
closures
+ Cottle Park Road
+ Owen Road
+
Maungaraki Road
+ Port Road
+ Marine Drive
+
Eastern Hutt Road between Stokes Valley and Silverstream -
only under the bridge
+ The main Wainuiomata Hill Road is
still open, but the on and off ramps from Seaview are
closed. The on and off ramps from Seaview are likely to
remain closed until late morning as trees and powerlines
are blocking the road.
Residents are asked to visit council’s website for the latest road closure updates: www.huttcity.govt.nz/emergency
If drivers are concerned about driving conditions this morning they can also call NZTA on 0800 44 44 49 or visit www.nzta.govt.nz.
For information on disruptions to bus and train services caused by the severe weather visit www.metlink.org.nz
Residents who still have power out should contact their power company.
