McKenzie Pool Construction Update
McKenzie Pool Construction Update
The $2.2 million redevelopment of Petone’s McKenzie Pool is moving to an exciting stage with the arrival of the Myrtha pools from Italy this week. These will form the new main, learners and toddlers pools.
“People passing the Udy Street site, will soon start seeing what the final size and layout of the pools will be as the walls are installed over the coming weeks” said Council’s recreation facilities manager, Stephen Keatley.
Most of the work to date has been demolition and clearing the site. This included completing the earthworks and foundations for the new pool concrete slabs which support the Myrtha system and the pouring of the foundations for the new office building.
“The team lead by Hawkins Construction has done a fantastic job in getting the project to this stage. I am excited to see the project move forward over the coming months” said Mayor Ray Wallace.
The pool is still on target to open in November despite being slightly behind the timetable due to some issues with the soil conditions on site.
“With the Myrtha pool on site and the splash pad equipment on its way it will be an exciting time as more of the facility takes shape” said Mr Keatley.
