Maintenance period for TSS Earnslaw briefly extended

Queenstown’s 100-year-old “Lady of the Lake” the TSS Earnslaw will be out of service for a slightly longer maintenance period than initially anticipated.

Real Journeys Chief Executive Richard Lauder says the TSS Earnslaw was due back in service at the end of June but following routine maintenance checks the company has decided to take the opportunity to complete some additional work.

“During maintenance we found some wear to one of the pistons and have decided to make the most of her quieter period and go ahead and take her out of the water and replace it. This is work that would have otherwise been scheduled for next year, says Lauder.

“The intention is to have her back steaming on the Wakatipu in mid-July - well in time for the busy school holiday period.” says Lauder.

The TSS Earnslaw will be taken out of the water this week and onto her regular slipway at Kelvin Grove.
