NIWA expects good weather during Fieldays
Weather is no longer the concern it once was for Mystery Creek Events Centre (MCEC) thanks to top notch technology that landed at the site two months ago.

The weather station which has now had time to ‘learn’ the micro-climatic condition of the Mystery Creek site – just in time for Fieldays – allows Richard Ferdinands, Operations Manager at MCEC to strengthen the operational and logistical elements involved in such a large scale event.

“It takes out the ‘what ifs’ when it comes to the weather. If we can foretell whether it’s going to rain or not, we can pre-empt any negative impact on our exhibitors and visitors by putting our contingency plans in place ahead of time.

“For the first time at Fieldays, we can notify exhibitors in advance to ensure they’re not caught out. They’ll be kept well informed in the lead up and during the event so they can be prepared for the elements”, he says.

NIWA, has just relayed its first official forecast reading for Fieldays 2013, stating that the weather looks promising for the biggest agribusiness event in the Southern Hemisphere. Dr Murray Poulter Chief Scientist, Atmosphere, at NIWA explains;

“There are no major rain-bearing weather systems on the horizon at this stage, and computer models suggest that generally dry conditions with light winds should prevail between the 12th and the 15th.

“Maximum temperatures are likely to be around the 14 or 15 degree mark, which is right on average. Minimum overnight temperatures could be cooler than average due to the expected clear conditions with light winds.

“As is always the case with the weather, things can change, so keep an eye on NIWA’s Mystery Creek weather feed located on the Fieldays website for the latest conditions and forecasts’, he says.

The website will also include information relating to wind, visibility, temperature, rain likelihood and UV alert periods, which will mean visitors will know before leaving home what essentials need to be worn or brought along with them.

NIWA will also be at Fieldays site PF15 for visitors to trial their specialised weather forecasting services.

New Zealand National Agricultural Fieldays will be held 12-15 June 2013 at Mystery Creek Events Centre, 10 minutes south of Hamilton. Fieldays is proudly supported by strategic partners - ANZ and the University of Waikato.
