Local board clarifies campground reports
Devonport-Takapuna Local Board Chairperson Chris Darby wishes to clarify inaccurate reports surrounding the local board’s adoption of the Takapuna Beach Reserve Management Plan on Tuesday.
“There have been some statements reported about the Takapuna Beach Holiday Park having to close on 29 January 2014, and that it being immediately replaced by a high performance yachting centre,” he says.
“These statements are untrue.
“Five chalets on the site will need to be removed by 29 January 2014 because their resource consent expires on that date.”
Auckland Council staff will work with the holiday park operators to extend their tenure, remediate the site boundary and surrounding environment and improve public access.
The management plan provides for motorhome accommodation and boat storage in the Northern Activity Zone. Council does not have any specific proposals for either activity. Any such proposals would need to be assessed against the management plan, proposed concept plan, Resource Management Act and Hauraki Gulf Marine Park Act.
“The plan provides a robust management framework that ensures greater public access to the 1.5km of shoreline and enjoyment of what is arguably New Zealand’s best urban beach.”
