Health messages on fleet cars a hit with the Health Minister
23 health promotion messages placed on the boot of
135 Northland DHB fleet cars across the region was supported
by Minister Ryall who visited Whangarei on Thursday.
“This is a really great way to reach as many people as
possible encouraging Northlanders to take care of their
health and prevent long term illness”, Minister Ryall
said.
Developed with the population and public health
teams the messages have a strong focus on Ministry health
targets such as increasing Immunisation, quitting smoking
and encouraging more people to have heart and diabetes
checks.
“We realised that we could better utilise the access we have to the general population by making each fleet car a mobile health billboard”, offered Chief Executive Dr Nick Chamberlain. “The messages offer positive health choices individuals can make every day”.
Each fleet car travels on average 15,000 kms a year and the health message will remain on the vehicle for up to three years.
The messages include ‘Is your drinking water safe – if unsure have your water quality tested’, ‘Taikina to Tinana –eat more vegetables –make your health a priority’, ‘Keep your driveway safe –where possible drive forwards out of the driveway’ and ‘Is your kaimoana safe to eat –always collect from clean safe areas’.
“I think there is an opportunity for other DHB’s around the country to adopt this initiative”, Minister Ryall said. “I applaud Northland DHB for their creative cost effective solution to health promotion”.
