Time We Told the Stories of Young Kiwi Legends

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 7th, 2013

Young Kiwis are leading change in communities all over New Zealand. Chances are there’s someone making a difference under the radar in your back yard. Project ‘BeCause’ is the chance to nominate a local do-gooder between the ages of 16 to 30, who can win the opportunity to partner with a top emerging filmmaker to tell their story in a short film.

The project aims to redefine the overwhelming negative conversation around New Zealand youth. “The concept is based on the philosophy that stories can change our world.  There are already so many people out there doing awesome things.  This is the perfect chance to celebrate and tell their stories,” said the Inspiring Stories Trust Project Manager, Liz Willoughby-Martin.

People can nominate and vote for their local legends at www.because.org.nz by June 21st, and use their networks to share the love. The top voted story will receive the People’s Choice Award and four more stories will be chosen by a judging panel of filmmaking experts.

“Film is the perfect medium to inspire, educate and engage young people. With such talented filmmakers, we know BeCause will result in beautifully produced films that can’t help but inspire people across Aotearoa,” Ms Willoughby-Martin said.

BeCause has been made possible with the generous help of the Vodafone New Zealand Foundation. Inspiring Stories will distribute the films nationwide during their 2014 Roadtrip where they roll out storytelling and filmmaking workshops.
