The state of our environment | April 2013
The state of our environment | April 2013 : Hawke's Bay Regional Council & MPI
April brought us a dollop of
rain and mild temperatures. Unfortunately that dollop
wasn’t as widespread as it could have been and although
the Heretaunga Plains received near normal rainfall, the
likes of the Ruataniwha Plains had about half the usual
April amount. That means we’ve now clocked up 8 straight
months of below normal rainfall for the region as a whole.
The rain perked up soil moisture and gave river and
groundwater levels a bit of a boost, but they are all still
quite low. The good thing was that temperatures were
positively balmy, which not only helped the grass to grow
but ensured firewood mostly stayed on the log pile so that
we can kick-start our air quality reporting with a hale and
hearty thumbs up.
