Update on key Middleton road – Birmingham Drive

Update on key Middleton road – Birmingham Drive, pressure main 105, also Princess St/ Matipo St intersection closure

As of Wednesday 24 April, drivers going north from Lincoln Road will no longer be able to turn left at Wrights Road into Birmingham Drive. The roundabout was opened up in recent weeks to allow two-way access as far as Halls Place to businesses in this area. This occurred when difficulties with the water main at the roundabout changed the sequence of work for this major wastewater pipe project.

Two crews employed by SCIRT delivery team Fulton Hogan will be working at either end of the Birmingham Drive work site to lay the new gravity wastewater pipe through this area. The aim is to get this road reopened to two-way traffic in June as was originally anticipated.

Traffic can still enter and exit Hands Road, Halls Place and Marylands Place via the eastbound lane ie the Annex Road/ Blenheim Road side.

Note also, further north on the same pipeline project, the Princess Street/Matipo Street intersection was closed to traffic last week. Work in the intersection will take one month. The only way to enter/exit Princess Street is via Clarence Street (by Tower Junction shops). Businesses in the area have been kept informed.
