US Marines support NZ Defence Force Poppy Day Appeal
US Marine Gunnery Sergeant Boylan and Royal New Zealand Army Lieutenant Bennet joined forces outside Parliament this morning to sell poppies for Anzac Day.
They were joined on the streets of Wellington by more than 150 Defence Force personnel for the annual drive.
The US Marines’ relationship with Wellington dates back to the World War II when they were stationed in camps in Wellington and the Kāpiti Coast. In June last year the marines celebrated the 70th anniversary of the arrival of American forces in New Zealand.
Funds collected by the service personnel will go toward the New Zealand Returned and Services’ Association’s welfare support programme.
