Power outage in Cambridge - update

Transpower advises that there is still a power outage affecting the Cambridge area following an explosion at the Cambridge substation around 12am this morning, which caused substantial damage to its 11 kV indoor switchgear.

Transpower crews are working as quickly as they can to rebuild the switchgear and are making good progress.

It is still too early to provide a detailed restoration time. Homes and businesses in the Cambridge area should continue to prepare for power not being restored until at least midday today. There remains a possibility that restoration will be further delayed if additional damage is found.

Further updates will be provided as information becomes available.
