WEATHER WARNING
Vector says customers should be prepared for the possibility of outages with the Met Service warning of stormy weather which is predicted to come in this evening (Monday).
Vector doesn’t expect too many issues but recommends that customers always be prepared for the possibility of an outage during inclement weather,
Vector’s field crews have been put on alert and all efforts will be made to respond to any outages as soon as possible.
Vector wants the opportunity to remind people than in the event of an outage that they should;
· stay well clear of fallen power lines or damaged electrical equipment and treat them as live at all times
· watch out for falling tree branches as these can cause damage to power lines
· keep a torch and spare batteries handy and ensure that you have at least one telephone that does not rely on electricity for operation
Some preventative measures could include;
· Securing garden furniture including umbrellas
· Ensuring tarpaulins are tied down
· check all windows and doors, including sheds, are firmly closed
People using medical equipment that relies on electricity should always ensure they are prepared for power disruptions and if there is an immediate health threat, contact their health provider or call 111.
The public should be confident that Vector will work hard to restore power as quickly as possible at all times. The safety of the public and Vector’s contracting field staff is of primary importance.
NETWORK SUMMARY for week ending 12 April 2013
ELECTRICITY
The Police informed us of three car vs pillar incidents in New Lynn, Otara and Manukau. Meanwhile the Fire Service reported a car vs pole incident in Flat Bush and the Ambulance Service reported a car vs pole in Western Springs.
In Waterview, a truck collided with a pole, causing lines to come down on the vehicle. Field crews worked to repair the damage and get power restored to the area.
The Fire Service requested Vector isolate power at six properties as a result of house fires in Northcote Point, Manurewa, Otahuhu, New Lynn and Papakura and one commercial building fire in Coatesville.
Our crews were called out twice to repair lines that had come down, one as a result of a truck backing into them and the other due to trees being felled and debris falling onto the lines.
We dealt with an area outage north of Auckland affecting Algies Bay, Snells Beach, Warkworth and Sandspit area - power was restored within two hours.
GAS TRANSMISSION AND DISTRIBUTION
There were five reports of contractors striking gas pipes while carrying out work including incidents in Stanmore Bay, Birkdale, Westmere, Takapuna and Half Moon Bay. A smell of gas was reported by the Fire Service in Hamilton Lake, Auckland. In all cases, repairs were made within two hours.
