Final decision on Mackays to Peka Peka proposal
Media release 12 April 2013
The Environmental Protection Authority has today issued the independent Board of Inquiry’s final decision and report on the New Zealand Transport Agency’s application for the Mackays to Peka Peka Expressway project.
The decision approves the notice of requirement sought by NZTA and grants the resource consents requested, subject to certain conditions.
The application was directed to a board of inquiry as a proposal of national significance by the Minister for the Environment, Amy Adams, in July 2012.
The EPA’s Acting Chair, Kevin Thompson, says there has been a high level of public interest and engagement during the board of inquiry process.
“The Board received and considered more than 700 public submissions, and the hearing lasted for 27 days.”
“It is pleasing the Board reached a decision within the nine-month statutory timeframe,” says Dr Thompson.
“I would like to thank the Chair, Sir John Hansen, and all the Board members, for their effort.”
The final report and decision has been sent to all the parties involved, and is available on the EPA website.
