Library opening hours up for debate
Palmerston North City Library is reconsidering its hours of operation and wants to hear from everyone what hours they’d like to see the library and its branches open.
The City Library and branch libraries play a key role in making Palmerston North a great place to live – key to that is being accessible.
Living room of the city manager Lindsey Birnie says by reviewing the opening hours we can find out if our hours of operations are suitable for members of the community.
“Perhaps, people don’t use the library because opening times don’t suit,” Lindsey said. “We want as many people in the community to tell us when they think the library should be open. We’re holding staff workshops and working closing with the Union to ensure everyone understands what we’re trying to achieve: Improved accessibility.”
The review came out of the restructure of the Library and Community Services and is one of the first ideas to be tested.
Copies of the survey can be obtained at www.citylibrary.pncc.govt.nz, or at any branch of the library. Lindsey Bernie says Library staff are also taking the surveys out to community groups and resthomes to ensure a wide range of people take part.
The survey period runs until April 26 and a decision on opening hours will be made next month however it’ll be the middle of the year before any changes are adopted.
