Pukekohe Primary School Gets Pole Position

Pukekohe North Primary School’s kapa haka group will be on the starting grid at this weekend’s V8 Supercars ITM 400 Auckland at Pukekohe Park Raceway, as a warm up to the Kapa Haka Nationals.

The 40 strong group will be one of Auckland’s representatives at the Kapa Haka Nationals in Tauranga in November, and have the backing of local iwi Ngati Tamaoho for their performance at the official proceedings on Sunday.

“I was lucky enough to catch one of the group’s rehearsals, and I can promise that V8 fans, drivers and officials are in for a treat,” says Greg Mosen, V8 Supercars ITM 400 Auckland Event Manager. “The V8 Supercars will be broadcast to more than 130 countries, and we wanted the track side entertainment to reflect New Zealand’s unique culture. We feel fortunate to find such talent right on the raceway’s doorstep.”

Pukekohe North Principal, Robyn Withers-Lauer, says the school has a very strong and supportive whanau network of parents and teachers.

“I know the children are very excited to be part of the formal proceedings. We are honoured to be chosen to perform at such a great occasion.”

Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic Development (ATEED) has been working in partnership with the Ngati Tamaoho Trust since the green light was given for the return of the V8s to Auckland in July 2012.
