Road closures and parking for Triathlon World Championship

Auckland Transport media release

4 April 2013

Road closures and parking restrictions for Triathlon World Championship

Triathlon action is back in Auckland this weekend, with some of the world’s top athletes heading here to take part in an International Triathlon Union (ITU) World Triathlon Series event on Saturday and Sunday, 6-7 April.
People coming into the CBD for the Triathlon or other attractions in the CBD should pre-plan their journey at AT.co.nz and be aware there will be road closures and parking restrictions on some streets in Auckland’s CBD and eastern waterfront.

Some roads will be closed from midnight on Friday and Saturday nights to prepare for the event. They include parts of Quay Street, Lower Albert Street, Customs Street, Shortland Street, Fort Street and part of Tamaki Drive on the eastern waterfront.

Queen Street and some side streets will be closed from 6am to 6pm as well. Where possible managed access will be in place for residents and businesses.

Due to road closures for the event, a number of bus stops in the CBD will be temporarily relocated during this time. In the CBD Auckland, transport ambassadors will be at most stops to help passengers. Details of the bus changes can be found at: http://www.maxx.co.nz/info/service-updates/stop-closures-city-centre-and-tamaki-drive-due-to-itu-triathlon.aspx
Spectators travelling to the event can travel by bus, train, ferry, or walk or cycle for a hassle free journey. The transport network may be busy during the Triathlon World Champs, so allow plenty of time to get to your destination.
The course layout, road closures and parking restrictions can also be viewed at www.triauckland.co.nz and updates will be provided across the weekend on twitter @akltransport.
