Take some Thyme Out

Take some Thyme Out

Press Release

In a prime position on Papatoetoe’s St George Street is a cafe with a difference.

Home to restored fire truck ‘little flick’, Thyme Out at The Station is Youthline Manukau’s community cafe.

Once the site of the Papatoetoe Fire Station, Youthline Manukau have kept the fire station theme and ethos alive.

“It has a real people oriented feel to it, everyone and anyone is welcome here and it’s just a safe place for people to meet for business meetings, informal catch ups or just to get a quick caffeine fix,” explains Cafe Manager Rachana Ramji.

Recently Thyme Out has launched a brand new menu, which has proved a hit.

“The day we launched we had heaps of foot traffic, and the feedback we got was all really positive, so we must be on the right track” says Ramji.

The new menu has been put together using ‘highlights’ from general cafe menus.

“We didn’t want anything too massive, just a good mix of popular savoury and sweet items. The corn fritters seemed to be the best seller!”

Apart from the freshly baked food, impressive catering menu and excellent coffee on offer, punters are surprised by the very affordable prices.

“Thyme Out at The Station is a community cafe, and we really wanted the menu to be all inclusive to everyone from the elderly to kids coming in for an afternoon snack from the school next door.

You can expect to pay between $6.00 and $12.50 for everything from Pancakes and Eggs Benedict to the Fireman’s Big Breakfast.”

Another special touch to the menu is the ‘koha’ item which is a new cabinet item each day, which customers can choose what they want to pay for it.

As well as providing a community space the cafe is also used as a hospitality training ground for young people and a place to promote healthy eating and nutritional education.

“Youthline is keen to help the local community and people develop and grow, so we’re just playing a small part in that by giving people the resources to learn new skills.”
