Demonstrators pleased with popular LibraryLive sessions

ROTORUA 28.03.13: Rotorua District Library’s ‘LibraryLive’ sessions have been an outstanding success, proving popular not only with library-goers, but with the many community groups and local businesses demonstrating their services.

Community Liaison Librarian, Bev Emmerson, said the range of sessions had been “amazing,” with lots of valuable input from local organisations.

“We’ve had banks, property valuers, and art groups come on board, along with cooking sessions and Tai Chi demonstrations - all have been happy to spread their message to interested people.

“Our door count registers over 1,000 people every day so the library is a great place to set up a temporary site, shop or gallery and to connect with members of the Rotorua community.”

Robin Sparrow Books owner, Robin Sparrow, said she had enjoyed holding LibraryLive sessions to showcase her original, handmade journals, book-binding skills and showing people how to repair their books.

Ms Sparrow sews, dyes, paints and draws her original designs, often embellishing books with vintage lace, fabrics and other materials. Most of her work is commissioned so no two creations are the same.

“I love having the opportunity to talk to people and answer their questions about creating, repairing or mending much-loved books.

“I’ve also enjoyed meeting lots of different people at the library and have been able to promote my book-binding classes, as well as quarterly journal-making project classes. My business is home-based, so I particularly like that I can set up a temporary site once or twice a month, creating a win-win for all involved.”

To host a LibraryLive session call the Rotorua Library on 348 4177 or visit LibraryLive online at www.rotorualibrary.govt.nz.
