Daisy Sunday Afternoon At Hollards
There’s more to the humble daisy than meets the eye – but all will be revealed at a free public workshop at Hollard Gardens, Kaponga, on Easter Sunday afternoon.
The daisy family is the one of the largest and most widespread in the world. It includes calendulas, artichokes, sunflowers, yacon and echinacea, all of which grow in the Bernie’s Home Garden demonstration and education area at Hollards.
Sunday’s workshop will cover the many uses of these plants, their relationship with beneficial insects and the unique structure of the daisy flower.
There will also be hints and tips on collecting seeds to sow in subsequent seasons, and the daisies that can be propagated and revitalised by dividing.
And there just might be an answer to the age-old daisy questions: S/he loves me? S/he loves me not?
The Easter Sunday event runs from 2pm to 4pm and participants are encouraged to bring seeds and plants to swap, and any interesting daisies from the garden at home.
The workshop is part of a year-round programme at Hollard Gardens, Pukeiti and Tupare, the three heritage properties owned and managed by the Taranaki Regional Council on behalf of the people of the region.
