Splore returns to the glorious Tapapakanga Park for the event's 10th anniversary
The biennial Splore event returns to the sublime Tapapakanga Regional Park on 14-16 February, 2014 to mark its 10th anniversary on the Auckland region’s events calendar. Splore 2014 is sure to be dazzling, sophisticated and not to be missed and will once again provide a richly diverse festival to entertain and delight its audience.
Splore is renowned for its extensive, wide-ranging programme of contemporary cultural offerings and for its audience it’s an experience like no other.
For three days and two nights international and local music will take centre stage. Previous international guest artists have called Tapapakanga Regional Park the best festival site in the world due to its stunning beach backdrop. There is nowhere else in New Zealand where you can watch a band while dancing in the warm ocean!
Splore is not just about music. It also showcases performance from cabaret to comedy, circus and theatre. The festival encompasses an extensive visual arts programme with participatory and site-specific artworks situated throughout the site. The Splore site is literally transformed into a magical wonderland where audience interaction is encouraged.
Inspiration for dressing up during the weekend is drawn from the festival theme. While next year’s theme is still to be announced, whatever the theme is, it will be designed to appeal to everybody’s playful and frivolous side.
A limited number of earlybird tickets go on sale on 2 April, 2013. Splore organisers expect that tickets will sell quickly. Ticket numbers will be capped at the same level as Splore 2012, which sold out. Splore 2014 is expecting another sell out crowd.
Organisers have found additional land to ease the pressure on parking and camping for Splore 2014, enabling more space to relax and play. A number of measures are being put in place to ensure the festival is a benchmark event for sustainability with expectations from organisers that the Splore community will contribute to supporting these initiatives.
