Food, Photography and Music in Season

Food, Photography and Music in Season at the Bay of Many Coves
Media Release: For immediate release

The Bay of Many Coves – the Marlborough Sounds’ only five-star luxury resort – has unveiled a stunning seasonal programme of food, photography and music events through Autumn and Winter 2013.

From April 25th to 28th, award-winning Executive Chef Hannes Bareiter will showcase local seafood producers in a Marlborough Sounds Seafood Celebration. Including visits to the NZ King Salmon farm, paua and mussel farms, the weekend also includes a morning’s fishing, expert lessons on how to create dishes using the best Marlborough Sounds grown King Salmon, and a special eight-course degustation dinner with fine Giesen Wine matches.

Commencing on ANZAC Day, members of the Australian and New Zealand Returned Services (and their partners) will qualify for a 10% discount on the weekend escape, while the first evening is dedicated to memories and music from the 1920s, ‘30s and ‘40s.

The Photography Retreat from June 28th to 30th features Simon Woolf – one of New Zealand's leading professional photographers – who will help attendees develop their skills and create stunning images of the resort’s marine life, rare native birds and stunning landscapes.

Simon returns for a Photography Retreat focusing on the natural environment from September 13th to 15th, which will include a guided expedition to Motuara Island, an uninhabited, predator-free reserve in the outer Queen Charlotte Sound.

A range of special events will also be music to the ears of jazz, opera, country and blues lovers – each featuring special performances and Hannes Bareiter’s award-winning seasonal menus, expertly matched with local and international wines.

The Andrew London Trio headlines Taittinger Autumn Jazz from April 12th to 14th, with gently satirical and whimsical songs that often playfully lampoon many of our Kiwi obsessions and taboos.

Kevin Clark and Fran Barton feature in Taittinger Winter Jazz in August (16th to 18th), before Andrew London returns with New Zealand’s favourite acoustic swing trio – Hot Club Sandwich – for Villa Maria Music and Wine from October 4th to 6th.

NBR New Zealand Opera returns to the Bay of Many Coves in 2013, with an Opera Lover's Weekend from June 14th to 16th featuring three international stars in a truly magical event. From a traditional Italian cocktail at the jetty upon arrival, until you leave with a lilting aria to inspire your journey home, the exquisite food with matching wines and fine operatic performances will guarantee an unforgettable soul stirring experience.

For lovers of Country and Blues, a Luxury Weekend from July 19th to 21st will feature American-inspired cuisine and traditional music from Tales of Tennessee and Aussie troubadour Peter Gavin. Over three days and two nights, the best traditions of the Americana songbook will be interspersed with storytelling, laughter, and even a chance for guests to hone their technique on the ukulele.

In addition to the organised activities, visitors to the Bay of Many Coves can choose to explore secluded beaches, swim with dolphins, explore the Queen Charlotte Track, or simply relax in their luxury apartments, nestled amongst native bush teeming with birdlife at the water’s edge.

Each year, the Bay of Many Coves’ very special events sell out quickly, but all are able to be booked online now – at www.bayofmanycoves.co.nz – or by calling 03 579 9771.
