Church Leaders Support Kaikohe Community Plan

Media Release: Church Leaders Support Implementation of Kaikohe Community Plan

The Kaikohe Church Leaders Forum strongly supports the further implementation of the Kaikohe Community Development Plan. The Community Development Plan was adopted by the Community Board in July 2011 and has six focus areas. Under the Spiritual Focus area of the plan, the forum met with school principals, police, social workers, prison chaplains and other community agencies last year. They discussed the issues that the community was facing and how churches can help. Some concrete actions have come out of those discussions.

The forum is holding its first meeting this year after Easter on April 4th, 8:30am at the Mid North Motor Inn. The meetings are hosted by the Hāhi Mihinare (Māori Anglican Church) who lease part of the conference centre as a training facility. The forum hopes that other aspects of the plan will begin to take shape, feed into and influence the Far North Blueprint strategy for the next 30-50 years. Church leaders are considering encouraging the help of other community leaders to get the other aspects of the Community Development Plan up and running in cohesive manner with a clear vision ahead for the community. Forum organisor Mike Shaw says, “The bible says ‘Where there is no vision, the people perish.’ and anything we can do as Church leaders to bring about a united vision for our community has to be a healthy thing.”

End.
