Mobile Library Launched Today
The new Palmerston North City Library mobile bus has been officially launched today. The new bus is a metre longer than the old mobile library and it will allow for extended services and offer a more user-friendly environment.
Special projects officer with the Library, Mary Holmes says one of the key attributes of the new Mobile Library is that it can be lowered when it is stationary, a ramp has been added and the steps inside the bus are smaller – “That’ll make the Mobile Library more accessible for everyone”.
Mary Holmes says the first thing you’ll notice about the new mobile library is the new graphics. “It looks amazing and will hopefully pique the imagination and encourage people to come on board.”
The Mobile Library has been specifically designed so that it can be taken to community events, the awning pitched, tables and chairs set up and that will hopefully encourage people to sit outside and read.”
It will also carry a slightly larger selection of books, magazines, CDs and DVDs and will be operated by the Mobile Librarian. The first day of service will be Monday 18 March.
This morning the Mobile Library was blessed and launched at the Palmerston North Community Leisure Centre.
Mary Homes says the Mobile Library’s public debut is tomorrow with visits to Kairanga School, Massey, i-Site and the Esplande. On Saturday it will take pride of place at the Festival of Cultures in the Square.
