NETWORK SUMMARY for week ending 10 March 2013

ELECTRICITY

There were five car vs poles during the week across Auckland and one car vs pillar in Tamaki Heights.

An incident in Warkworth caused by a fire in the bush resulted in a line being tripped. Crews repaired the damage and full power was restored.

A blue flash reported in Barron Drive was a result of a feeder fault that affected a number of customers. Full power was restored.

Crews were called to attend and isolate the power following six house fires across Auckland. There were eight outages throughout Auckland over the week including an incident reported by a member of the public who was experiencing a fluctuation in their power following a transformer fault in Glenfield.

There were three cases of lines down this week, one in Titirangi South, another on the West Coast where a truck brought down lines on Muriwai Road and a third on Hillcrest Road in Papatoetoe.

GAS TRANSMISSION AND DISTRIBUTION

There were an incredible six third party strikes on our network last week. A variety of contractors hit Vector’s network, causing the Fire Service and Vector’s contractors to be called out to repair them.

Crews also attended a reported smell of gas in Mt Maunganui. The site was made safe and work will be carried out.

Projects

Work winds up at Wynyard Quarter

More than five kilometres of gas, electricity and communication cables are being relocated by Vector to accommodate future residential and commercial development within the Wynyard Quarter. The Wynyard Quarter project is being managed by a construction contractor and Vector’s role is to lay thousands of metres of cables in the contractor’s trenches. It is a major project for Vector, spanning two years, and covering five key streets. The work will enable the thousands of residents and workers in the area to have high speed communications and a secure gas and electricity supply in future. Trenching has already begun on Halsey Street which will be followed by work on Daldy Street. Vector is working closely with Waterfront Auckland, Chorus, Auckland Transport and Auckland Council to ensure work is co-ordinated and is undertaken with minimal disruption.

The 'dig once' policy is integral to Vector’s capital works programme. The company works closely with Council and other utilities so services together so complementary works are carried out in the same place, at the same time.
