Expressway decision welcomed
MARCH 4, 2013
Kapiti Mayor Jenny Rowan has welcomed the draft decision by the Board of Inquiry into the MacKays Crossing to Peka Peka Expressway.
“It is fair to say this project has deeply divided our community. However, after years of debate, we now have some certainty and it will allow people to move on with their lives.”
Mayor Rowan said the draft decision was more than 400 pages long including 94 pages of conditions.
“It will take us several days to check the conditions to ensure the issues we raised in our submission have been taken into account. The Board of Inquiry notes in its draft decision that the expressway will have a significant impact on our landscape. Given this, measures designed to mitigate those impacts will be important.”
Mayor Rowan said the project was huge and would result in a considerable injection of money into the local economy, which would be welcomed by many.
