Life Flight Rescues Woman From Tararua Ranges
Life Flight Rescues Woman From Tararua Ranges
At approximately 5pm this evening The Life Flight Trust responded to the Tararua Ranges to a Woman in her 40’s suffering from a medical complaint.
Life Flight
responded in The Westpac Rescue Helicopter.
The
patient was located between Jumbo Hut and Aitiwhakatu Hut
on the Raingauge Spur Track under a dense forest
canopy.
Fortunately the party were very well prepared and
had a emergency locater beacon which they activated. The
helicopter crew homed in on the signal and were able to
locate the group almost immediately.
Due to the
terrain landing was impossible so a suitable clearing was
found nearby and the onboard Paramedic from Wellington Free
Ambulance was winched through a gap in the tree tops and
then hiked a short distance to the patient.
They
were then both winched onboard the Helicopter and
transported to Wellington Hospitals Emergency Department
where she will be further assessed and treated.
