Auckland set to celebrate Pacific style
There’s only 10 days to go until Western Springs Park transforms into an ‘island paradise’ as it hosts 10 nations in a
colourful celebration of Pacific culture.
Western Springs Park is home to the annual Pasifika Festival, showcasing the sights, sounds and traditions of Samoa,
Fiji, Tonga, the Cook Islands, Tokelau, Niue, Tahiti, Kirbati, Tuvalu and Aotearoa. This year’s festival has been
expanded to two days, 9 and 10 March.
“The ever-popular Pasifika Festival is a feast for the senses, and a rare opportunity to experience islands of the
Pacific – all without leaving the region,” says Stan Wolfgramm, ATEED (Auckland Tourism, Events and Economic
Development) Festival Producer.
“Pasifika consistently rates as one of the most popular and important social events in Auckland’s major events calendar.
The festival celebrates Auckland’s uniqueness as the largest Pacific Island city in the world, and this year’s event
will give people a more authentic experience.”
A specially designed island food menu has been adopted this year to provide visitors with a more traditional and
authentic taste experience, while stalls selling non-traditional fare or items from more than one nation will be located
in new Pan Pacific areas.
Entry is free throughout the weekend. Visit www.aucklandnz.com/pasifika to find out more.
