South Seas Health Care Integrated Family Health Centre Opens It’s New Offices in South Auckland
South Seas Healthcare Trust (SSHT) celebrated the opening of its new Integrated Family Health Centre in Otara last
Friday by the Hon Tariana Turia, Associate Minister of Health and Minister of Whanau Ora. The celebration brought
together local Pacific Members of Parliament, Ministry of Health, Local Councillors, representatives of the various
Health sectors, as well as leaders of the wider Pacific community. The $1.2 million building took 4 months to complete
and is fully funded by South Seas Healthcare Trust.
From humble beginnings South Seas Healthcare has emerged as a leader within the Pacific Primary Healthcare sector
delivering excellence in healthcare services while thriving as a business entity.
In a written statement, Hon Tariana Turia congratulated the team for their hard work and commitment and services to the
health and wellbeing of the community. “I hope that this Centre and the people who come through your doors, are empowered with the beacons of hope that we can
find within our collective experience, to illuminate our journey forward.”
Deputy Chair of the Board Dr.Teuila Percival at a media press conference says the opening of this centre was the
‘fruition of the commitment and dedication from Board and staff towards addressing the health needs of its clients and
their families’.
“Here at South Seas you will never meet a staff who will say No, it’s not my Job. No matter how big or small the
client’s needs are they are always willing to do their best to help and find a solution”.
Clinical Director Dr. Andrew Chan Mow said it was important to provide a first class service for our patients utilising
first class facilities.
“We are driven by the needs of our clients. South Seas Healthcare will continue to provide services that improve
accessibility and deliver better health outcomes for our community.”
In 2006 the South Seas Healthcare was the first Pacific Healthcare provider to achieve the Royal NZ College of General
Practitioners Cornerstone Accreditation as well as the NZ Quality Health Accreditation. The organisation has grown
substantially and prides itself with the development of innovative programmes and a model of care for the delivery of
primary health care services. Today it has an enrolled population of over 4000 patients in the GP clinic and its
Community Outreach team reaches 80,000 people.
The community services provided by the Trust include Pacific Child Health Promotion – Kids in Action Programme, Family
Violence Prevention in partnership with the Malaeola community, Social Services, Well Child Nurse Services, Otahuhu
College GP Clinic, Pasifika Ola Lelei Service Gambling Prevention in partnership with Raukura Hauora o Tanui, and
Pasifika Smoke Free Services delivering smoking cessation support to the wider community.
As a provider within Alliance Health + PHO, the Trust is also delivering Whanau Ora initiatives within the Counties
Manukau region.
General manager Kasanalaita Puniani stated during her speech at the opening ceremony:

in Auckland and delivering excellence in child health and maternity services. This includes the continuum to develop
innovative services that embrace effective use of technology and research to address the needs of our community Finally
we are committed to ensuring that our workforce continues to be well trained, skilled, competent and committed to the
maintenance of an excellent and affordable healthcare centre.”
