The Wind in the Willows blows into the Botanic Gardens

As part of the Christchurch Botanic Gardens 150th Anniversary celebrations, the Christchurch City Council is proud to present the Anthony Harper Summer Theatre production of the much-loved children’s classic The Wind in the Willows.

We all know the story and the manic, frustrating but thoroughly loveable Toad of Toad Hall. This summer, Toad and the other charming characters of The Wind in the Willows are making their home in the Christchurch Botanic Gardens in high style.

Spend a sun-dappled afternoon or balmy evening reacquainting yourself with old friends as Ratty, Badger and Mole try to keep up with Toad’s antics all while keeping an eye out for naughty weasels and stoats. Full of raucous laughter, bittersweet emotion, warm camaraderie and plenty of ‘simply messing about in boats’, it’s a romp for all ages.

From a beautiful script by Alan Bennett based on the evergreen classic by Kenneth Grahame, and starring Mark Hadlow – fresh from his success as Dori in The Hobbit – as Toad, this play produced by Rozena Hallum and Lin Clarke will create golden memories for you and your family.

“There could be no more beautiful setting for this classic play, and I can’t wait for the mayhem to begin,” Mr Hadlow says. “We’re having a beautiful summer and a free event like this is a great opportunity for a brilliant family day out and even a picnic. Just bring enough for me”.

Information on the Anthony Harper Summer Theatre presents The Wind in the Willows:

• Wind in the Willows performance takes place from Friday 15 February – Sunday 3 March, at the Botanic Gardens. No performances Monday 18 and Monday 25 – Wednesday 27 February.
• Performances from Tuesday to Friday are 6pm. Saturday and Sunday performances take place at 12.30pm and 6pm.
• Running Time: two hours, including an intermission.
• Parking at the Botanic Gardens car park, entry off Armagh Street or Riccarton Avenue.
• Free Admission. Cancelled if wet.
