Tupare treats on Waitangi Day
Live music, tasty treats, local arts and crafts, and a chance to explore and learn more about one of New Plymouth’s premier heritage properties and its stunning gardens … all this and more will be on offer at Tupare on Waitangi Day.
Free events at the Mangorei Rd property on 6 February will start with a guided garden walk at 8.30am, followed by a garden fair from 10am to 1pm.
The walk will be led by Tupare Manager Mitch Graham, who will talk about the Arts and Crafts style of Tupare and the use of New Zealand plants in the garden, as well as revealing some of his own favourite plantings.
The garden fair will feature:
• Live performances by local singer-songwriters Missie Moffat (guitar, vocals, percussion) and Juliet McLean (vocals, keys) –a mixture of favourite covers and well-crafted originals, all featuring warm and tuneful harmonies.
• Stalls selling ready-to-eat treats for you to enjoy brunch or a picnic on the spot: coffee, French baking and pastries, chicken souvlaki, bacon and egg rolls, cupcakes and Middle Eastern dips and breads.
• Fresh local produce including blueberries, fresh vegetables, jams, sauces, wines, breads, honey, garlic and lavender products, nuts, and plants – ornamental and vegetable seedlings.
• Handmade art and craft including jewellery, fibre craft, beauty products, toys and books.
The Waitangi Day events are part of a year-round programme of workshops and other events at Tupare, Pukeiti and Hollard Gardens, the three heritage properties owned and administered by the Taranaki Regional Council on behalf of the people of the region. For more information, see www.tupare.info, www.hollardgardens.info and www.pukeiti.org.nz. Social media users can also follow the Regional Gardens on Facebook (TaranakiRegionalGardens) and Twitter (@TaranakiRG).
The Tupare guided walk on Waitangi Day is also part of the New Plymouth District Council’s Summer Guided Walks programme.
