Dun Mountain Trail To Be Closed For Five Weeks

The Dun Mountain Trail will be closed to mountain bikers and walkers from Monday 11 February to Monday 18 March while
construction of a new underground water pipeline from the Maitai Dam moves closer to the city.
During the five-week trail closure, work on the Maitai Pipeline Duplication project will be taking place along a section
of the trail on Maitai Valley Road, up from the motor camp.
Manager Capital Projects Phil Hamblin says due to the narrow width of the road in this busy residential area, there
isn’t any way to keep recreational access open while the new pipeline is being installed.
Mountain bikers and walkers are discouraged from using any part of the trail while the work takes place, including the
current detour section on private property near the motor camp. Closure signage will be installed at all entry points to
the Dun Mountain Trail.
The trail will be open for the Coppermine Epic mountain bike race on Saturday 16 February.
Maitai Valley Road, from the motor camp to the Maitai Dam, is currently closed to motorists until July 2013.
At a cost of $12 million, the new duplicate pipeline will eventually replace the existing 50-year old above ground
pipeline.
Alternative biking options to the Dun Mountain Trail include Codgers Mountain Bike Park at the top of the Brook Valley
and Involution Trail in Marsden Valley, or closer to the city, try Sir Stanley Whitehead Park, Branford Park and the
