Wellington Vegfest
Wellington’s waterfront is the place to be on Sunday March 10, as Veg Fest kicks off a free community festival at Frank
Kitts Park from 11 am - 5 pm.
An exciting joint venture by the Wellington branches of the Vegetarian and Vegan Societies, the festival will feature a
range of stalls offering tasty food, information, advice, services and products.
Special guest at the event will be the Executive Chef of Auckland’s Heritage Hotel Group (principle sponsor) Jinu
Abraham, who specialises in five star veg cuisine.
VegFest will also include entertainment by locals French for Rabbits, One Lone Lily and DJ Remedy. Wellington Access
Radio presenter for Animal Rights and Wrongs, Julie Gunn, will MC the event.
Caroline Jack of the Wellington branch of the New Zealand Vegetarian Society and one of the organisers of the festival
says the society has held successful annual events in the past but this is the first time it has been held on the
waterfront. The joint venture will replace previous events and is in keeping with the increased demand for information
about plant-based diets.
“People are becoming more concerned about animal welfare and environmental issues and are enjoying the health benefits
of a plant based diet.
“This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in sampling veg food or wanting to learn more about the benefits of a
plant based diet to come and talk to the experts, along with the added benefit of relaxing to music at this outdoor
event.
“We hope this will become a regular event in the Wellington Summer scene and will go ahead rain or shine.”
