Esplanade Flying Fox stolen
The most popular piece of equipment in Palmerston North’s Esplanade has been stolen.
Late last year Palmerston North City Council spent $20,000 revamping the Flying Fox following public demand. The cable was replaced and tensioned, the safety surfacing underneath was extended and the height of the pole at the end of the ride was increased to reduce the impact of the ride’s end.
Contracts and leisure officer Nicki Hanna says the theft is disheartening.
“We made a big push to revamp the Flying Fox just before Christmas so everyone could enjoy it during summer only to have it stolen.”
“We think the equipment was stolen on either Sunday or Monday night. The park is closed to vehicles at night so the people who took it would have had to carry the equipment to either the Fitzherbert Avenue or Park Road entrance.”
If anyone saw anything please call the Palmerston North police on 351 3600.
