New Year Sees Waikato District Council Join Facebook
Waikato district residents can now keep up-to-date with the council’s latest news following the launch of the Waikato District Council Facebook page.
The council’s page www.facebook.com/WaikatoDistrictCouncil went live last week and will act as a channel for news and events updates along with general information from the council, including important messages such as burst water pipes, road closures and civil defence emergencies.
Stakeholder Relations general manager Jo Ireland said the page would also be used to gauge public opinion.
“The Facebook page provides us with another way to interact with our ratepayers, residents and visitors. It will be a useful platform for gauging public opinions about topics of change or interest relating to the council’s activities.”
Ms Ireland said it was hoped the Facebook page would help expand the council’s audience.
“In this day and age many people use online media tools such as Facebook as a primary information source and we are excited to be able to engage with a wider audience through a new, modern platform.”
Ms Ireland encouraged people to head online and ‘Like’ the page to receive regular updates from the council.
