Celebrate Auckland Anniversary with a free boat tour of Auckland’s Port and harbour
Ports of Auckland is once again providing Aucklanders with free guided boat tours of the Port and inner harbour as a part of the city’s 2013 Auckland Anniversary Weekend celebrations.
“Auckland’s Port has been an active part of the Auckland community for well over a century and the tours showcase the port and harbour beautifully,” says Ports of Auckland spokesperson Matt Ball.
“The hour-long tours are fun and informative and celebrate Auckland’s great maritime history.” Mr Ball says.
The tours will depart from Pier 4 at the Downtown Ferry Terminal. There will be four tours each on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 January at 10am, 12pm, 2pm and 4pm and two tours on Monday 28 January at 2pm and 4pm.
Bookings are essential and can be made by contacting 360 Discovery on 0800 360 3472 (0800 360 Discovery).
The family friendly tours will cruise around the commercial wharves taking you up close to any ships berthed and provide a close-up view of port operations.
The trip will also include a special stop at the Auckland Harbour Bridge, Westhaven Marina and Viaduct Harbour.
Ports of Auckland will also be sponsoring the historic Oceanbridge Auckland Anniversary Day Regatta on Monday 28 January.
The 2013 Regatta will be the 173rd that has been held in the city.
Regatta highlights include a tugboat parade, starting at the Viaduct Harbour at 9am, followed by a popular favourite, the annual tugboat race.
The best vantage points to see the race are Queens Wharf, North Head, East Coast Bays beaches, Devonport and Devonport Wharf.
