Charity auction raises $2830 for City Mission Christmas lunch
The generous donation of a signed replica 2011 Rugby World Cup All Black jersey for auction has raised $2830 for the Christchurch City Mission’s Christmas Lunch.
Shilton and Brown Demolition director Jim Shilton donated the jersey to support the annual lunch, which he says plays an even more important role in the city since the devastating earthquakes.
TradeMe waived its usual fees to ensure all of the funds go directly to the Mission.
In the other fundraising effort by city contractors, Protranz Earthmoving was voted most popular effort in a Dress Up Your Digger contest.
Along with Wards, Nikau and Ceres Environmental, Protranz dressed up equipment parked on the edge of the Red Zone. The public was able to vote on press.co.nz and asked to donate food for the City Mission’s Christmas lunch.
Smith Crane and Construction donated several hams and sacks of potatoes in lieu of dressing up.
Protranz, the online winner with 229 votes, sat a Santa mannequin on an old army tank, along with presents and tinsel. The contractors’ efforts were viewed and photographed by hundreds of people since Sunday night.
The Press chipped in with a $300 donation in support of the contractor’s work.
The winner of the replica All Blacks jersey will be able to collect it tomorrow, once the funds have been handed to the City Mission.
