Kids Toy Exchange Market
Aro Valley Community Centre, 10am – 1pm, Saturday 5 January 2013
Now that the kids have got some new toys for Christmas, it’s a great time to encourage them to sort out their surplus old toys, and get them all along to the Aro Valley Kids Toy Exchange Market, where they can sell, swap, or buy. New life for old toys; more shelf and cupboard space for your house!
The Kids Toy Exchange has cheap stalls for kids, $5 and $10, and trestle table hire for a further $5. Anyone is welcome to bring their toys and kids along. There will be an outdoor barista cafe all day, and a waterslide if the weather is good. Dads, kids and the visiting relatives are all invited to join the Backyard Cricket tournament from noon to 2pm; and have a go at Ultimate Frisbee between 2-3pm. Aro Valley hosts Bike Polo every Saturday from 3pm, an interesting version of polo played while riding a bicycle. Bikes for public use are provided. Only in Aro Valley! There’s even musical entertainment featuring a children’s band and others from 3pm.
Organiser Martin Wilson says, “this is a great way to kick off our Aro Valley Summer Fun community activities throughout January. Everyone, from anywhere in Wellington, is invited to bring their kids and their old toys along, and have some fun while here.”
“The Toy Exchange Market is a great idea – teach the kids to clear their old toys, learn some commerce, and have a good time while doing it.” Aro Valley trialled the idea last summer and it proved popular and successful. This summer, it is hoped the idea will continue to grow and eventually become a fundraiser for the local preschool. For now, it’s just a lot of fun. People are also invited to bring any of their own fun games, including side-show type games like wet sponge throwing, and bowling games, and set them up to raise funds and for the public to try.
Wilson says, “the timing is good, immediately after Christmas. People are still in holiday mode, the kids will be keen to clear some of their old toys, and there’s a bunch of fun stuff to do on the day after the market.”
Other stalls with any suitable goods are also welcome, although they pay the “adult” stall prices of $20 small, $40 large. There should also be a range of BBQ food for sale.
No registration is necessary for the Kids Market; you can just turn up and be allocated a site, or start browsing.
