Call for holiday home owners to check their TVs over summer
Holiday home owners are being urged to check their TVs have gone digital this summer if they want to continue watching TV. By next summer, New Zealand television will have gone digital so any TV not equipped to receive the digital signal will no longer work.
“As people enjoy the festive season at their baches, I’m encouraging everyone to check their TV and make sure it has gone digital,” said Going Digital National Manager Greg Harford.
“You don’t need a new TV to go digital as any set can be converted with the right set-top box and a UHF aerial or satellite dish, depending on where your holiday home is located.
“89 per cent of New Zealand households have already gone digital but those that haven’t made the move yet need to start looking at their options and take action to ensure they can continue watching TV after their region goes digital”.
Along with the TV, Mr Harford says those with video recorders and DVD players need to be aware that these devices also need to go digital if they are to continue receiving and recording programmes.
New Zealand television is going digital in stages, and the South Island is next on 28 April. The lower North Island is going digital on 29 September 2013 and finally the upper North Island on 1 December 2013. Hawke’s Bay and the West Coast have already gone digital.
