Wellington musicians join forces for Gaza

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

One week after New Zealand supported Palestine’s successful United Nations membership bid, seven Wellington bands join forces to raise money for Gaza. Rogernomix, Mongo Skato, Mr Sterile Assembly, Johnsonville City Nights, Fantails, Big Rick, and Aura will play at the San Francisco Bath House on Cuba Street on Friday December 7.

Israel’s ‘Operation Pillar of Defense’ killed 170 Palestinians and injured at least 1,222. The money raised on Friday will go to Kia Ora Gaza’s reconstruction appeal. Earlier this year, Kia Ora Gaza was part of a land convoy that delivered ten tonnes of medical supplies to health authorities in Gaza.

New Zealander Tali Williams, who went to Gaza as part of the aid convoy, believes that ‘if there is one thing Gazans do well, it’s rebuild despite the devastation visited on them. They can’t rebuild so long as Israel’s blockade continues – this is where we on the other side of the world can help. We can assist in raising awareness about the blockade on Gaza and the occupation and assist in rebuilding Gaza.’

Williams will be speaking at the fundraiser on Friday. The show is co-organised by Wellington Students for Justice in Palestine and the San Francisco Bath House. Entry costs $5. All funds will go to Kia Ora Gaza.
