Level One water restrictions to start this weekend
Due to low rain fall, Level One water restrictions will be introduced from Saturday 1 December 2012.
Garden sprinklers and unattended
water devices may only be used during the hours of 7.00pm to
9.00pm on alternate days as follows:
• Houses
with even street numbers on even days
• Houses
with odd street numbers on odd days
During your allocated day you may use hand held hoses.
Soak hoses are strictly prohibited at all times.
“It is rare that restrictions need to be enforced so early in the summer season,” water asset engineer Dora Luo said. “It is hoped that by recruiting resident’s co-operation in conserving water it will help reduce the need for more severe restrictions later in the season.”
Palmerston North residents use an average of 29,000 cubic metres of water every day which can climb to 49,000 cubic metres on a hot day. Water is drawn from the Council owned dams, however, during a dry season the City needs the bores working harder to supplement the supply. Unfortunately the bores are unable to meet typical water demand.
Palmerston North City Council also asks that if residents see water leaking from a hydrant or a toby that they contact the Council on 356 8199.
