New Entrance Signals Positive Changes for Wintec Campus
A new entrance at Wintec’s Rotokauri campus in north Hamilton signals positive changes for the campus over the coming
months, says Wintec Chief Executive Mark Flowers.
On Monday 3 December the Rotokauri campus entrance will be relocated from Avalon Drive to *Akoranga Road as a result of
the Waikato expressway development.
“The public will see some changes to our Rotokauri campus over the coming months, in particular the construction of the
new Engineering and Trades facility which begins next year. This campus is in the heart of the city’s industrial area
and we’re keen to develop better connections with this community.”
“Through our student training restaurant Windows, our sustainable research facility and industry training facilities, we
already enjoy many visitors to the campus. I’d hope to see more people enjoying the campus as a result of the new
entrance, as it will be much safer to access than the current Avalon Drive entry.”
From 6.00am next Monday, the Akoranga Road entrance will be the only access point to the Rotokauri campus, with the
Avalon Drive entrance to be closed permanently.
Forty new public car parking spaces will also be available on Akoranga Road. Signage directing visitors to the campus
entrance will be visible from the expressway.
Wintec opened its campus on Avalon Drive in 1995. It is home to the School of Trades, School of Sport and Exercise
Science and Centre for Hospitality, student training restaurant Windows, a student hub, the Centre for Industry Training
and a student village and research facility. Sports House, which is occupied by Sport Waikato, is also based on the
Rotokauri campus.
Wintec’s other campuses are located in the Hamilton’s central city, the Hamilton Gardens, Te Kuiti, Thames and
Otorohanga.
