NETWORK SUMMARY for week ending 25 November 2012
ELECTRICITY
It was a busy week for our faults crews with four car v poles in Albany North, Onehunga, Papatoetoe and Whangapararoa. A car hit a transformer in Otahuhu and in Glenfield, a car hit a motorcycle and the motorcycle then hit a transformer. Crews also attended lines down in Te Atatu, Riverhead and Woodlands Park.
Repairs were made to a feeder in Papatoetoe which affected a small number of customers, and a pillar in Totara Heights.
The week also saw response crews requested to attend a house fire in Flat Bush,a fire at a packaging company in Middlemore, along with building fires in Manurewa, Glenfield and Orakei. This was to isolate the electricity supply to ensure the safety of the fire crews.
GAS TRANSMISSION AND DISTRIBUTION
There were two gas service pipe strikes during the week. In Orewa, a 32mm PE main was hit by a digger and third party contractors burned through a 25mm PE service pipe with a torch in Silverdale. Crews also attended a report of a strike on a gas pipe in Rosebank which turned out to be a gas pipe running along a boundary line that had been decommissioned.
Please take care around our gas network and call 0508 B4 U WORK (248 967) or 0800 B4 U DIG if outside Auckland.
PROJECTS
Balmoral 22kV Transformer Replacement - We have just started work on replacing the transformers at Balmoral substation. The transformers are being replaced to ensure security of supply and also to enable growth in the area. These works are an integral part of the cabling work that we have recently completed along Arabi, Calgary, Kiwitea streets and Mt Albert Road.
The transformer replacement works will be mainly within the substation area so should not cause significant disturbance to the local residents.
