Starship Foundation to Benefit from Roskill South Carnival
Its carnival season with a charitable twist at Roskill South this Saturday, where visitors will be able to enjoy a real family fun day and do their bit for a popular children’s charity just by ordering some lunch!
Domino’s Mt Roskill will pledge $1 from each pizza sold on November 17 & 18, between 11am-4pm to the Starship Foundation.
The idea for the inaugural Roskill South Carnival is the brainchild of Domino’s Mt Roskill and Howick operations manager Vishal Choksi, who is originally from India and is passionate about helping sick children and their families.
“I proposed the idea to the local board a few months ago and they really loved it. The carnival is a celebration of the Roskill South culture and community, and ties in really well with our main fundraising event. We have big ambitions about raising money for Starship this weekend – all the staff at the Mt Roskill store have come up with the magic figure of selling 1000 pizzas for those hours between 11am and 4pm, Saturday and Sunday. That will mean $1000 for the Starship Foundation and if we can get to that goal, then we will all be extremely thrilled.”
The cause is one that is dear to Choksi and his wife, who are trying for their first baby.
“I can’t think of a more worthy cause than supporting a non-profit charity that provides such important paediatric healthcare, training and research for the whole of New Zealand,” he says.
Choksi says the Roskill South Carnival is being promoted through social media. Visitors can expect a range of activities – from a special kids’ parade put on by the local kindy, bouncy castle, face painting and even a bit of musical entertainment courtesy of local businesses as well as giveaways from all the stores, including pizza vouchers.
“The Roskill South Carnival is deliberately planned to be held at the same time as the Starship fundraising event and Taste of Puketapapa – so we can get maximum exposure for Starship. Every single pizza sold, even those from our $4.99 value range and our special $5 Puketapapa pizzas with extra toppings, will mean more money for Starship,” says Choksi
“It’s also a great opportunity for families to take advantage of the free entertainment and maybe buy a couple of pizzas for lunch at a very reasonable cost. We’re all looking forward to the kids’ parade by the local kindergarten. I think it will be fabulous,” he says.
The Roskill South Carnival is being held on Saturday, November 17 but Domino’s Mt Roskill will be holding the special Starship Foundation fundraising event on both days of the weekend, from 11am to 4pm.
